Second try at a crappie umbrella rig

I purchased the materials to make a few rigs for crappie on KY Lake when the weather cooperates a bit more. This is my second prototype, the first is too hideous to post. Any thoughts? Barrle swivel attached with a split ring holding two wires with 2 loops on each. A 1/4 ounce egg sinker is pushed up to the split ring. I was thinking that once the wires are spread apart, the sinker should stay. It is snug as it is though. The wire is a #10 and 105 pound test. any improvements anyone want to share?

I got one a week or two ago from Ebay, and since I dont have a boat, I fish alot off the bank, and also the docks, and I just back from a trip the fishin was SUPER slow, so I'm not sure how it really works or not, BUT I think for mine or any of them, I think a good option would be if the wires are at different depth the the others, like maybe 2 wires at 7in, 2 wires at 6in, then the last wire be at bout 5in. But thats just my thoughts.

That's a good point. I'm trying to get that small bait ball look which most of these rigs try to represent. I may try making some with different depth wires like you suggested.

We been making a 3 wire out of .031 staneless wire.Usining 1/8 oz leadheads on the outside wires and a 3/16 oz on the middle wire to keep the rig balanced.

Looks good! I've been researching a lot on these, and will be trying to create one like it myself..

We tye our wires into a split ring!!!!Seems to hold real good we have hybrid stripers in our lake and you never no when one of those will show up and bend your rig up!!!!

Yeah, I'm probably gonna go up in wire size for the hybrids and stripers. Right now I'm using the smaller size to try for crappie. I'm just waiting to get the time to try them. Hve any of you tried slow trolling with these type of rigs?

For what it's worth we tried pulling one (bought at a fishing show) last week. We had an 80+ fish day on a lake that normally produces 30-50 fish days. We trolled quite a few different colors and even a few cranks at .9mph. Caught fish on everything we put in the water BUT the "bama" rig. Water was clear and the wire was very obvious.
I'm not saying the things won't work, just saying that it didn't work on a day when most everything else did.

Thats what I keep thinkin. Most folks would never even consider using a swivel atop their jig, but those things look like a friggin' I don't know what on top of your jigs. How would they not see all that junk around the jig? I've been a little skeptical since they came out.
