i pilot fuse question

I've done away with my us2 on my 80# terrova trolling motor and went with a seperate trancducer and and cable for my 788hd di and i still have the us2 cable in the shaft but have removed the rest of the cable were it hooked together in the head of the terrova.......my question is do i need the fuse in the head unit or not?

No.

All that fuse does is provide a ground to the TM housing. Sometimes this grounding thru the fuse makes rf noise worse, sometimes you have to add the fuse to help with noise.

I would try it without the fuse first.
