Wondering if it is possible to have 2 fish finders on at the same time. Getting a new one for my stick steer and my fishing partner (daughter) wants me to mount the old one in the back of the boat for her. Will having both on at the same time cause interference between the two and give false readings. Antr input would be appreciated.

Any time there are 2 units running the same frequency.. There is chance for interference...
Most units have a noise filter setting that can be turned up ...
Put them both on and try them.. You may get lucky and not have any interference at all...
I can run my 1197 (on the front) and my old Eagle Magna II (at the back) at the same time with no interference...
But I get interference if I try to run my 1197 and my Fishmark 480 at the same time...
Just try it and see what happens...

I run a 998 up front and a 1198 at console, no interference at all.
I'm wanting to run 2 sonars off the trolling motor. Is this possible without interference. I have a HDS-7 on the trolling motor, and wanting to put a Lowrance Down Scan on the trolling motor wit it.
I know I could add a LSS-1 and get the down Scan, but would rather have a seperate Unit for the down scan. This way I could have my HDS-7 on split screen with Sonar/Chart, and the other unit with a 5" down scan running ALL the time. Wouldn't have to switch them back and forth, from screen to screen. I could do this for a little less money than buying a LSS-1, but the biggest reason is to having 3 screens (Sonar/Chart/DI) running continuosly. Really don't need or want a Side Scan on the bow.
Anyone do this or whats you thoughts.

only way to find out is to try it, just do a temporary mount/installl and try it a few times to see. I had a dual beam on the TM last year, and a single beam on the transom, and if both were not on the same frequency, I got interference. This was on a PT175, low end DF's, so.....

If you get RF with nothing else on in the boat.. It would be sonar to sonar interference...
If you get RF look for noise filter settings in the menus...

Typical finders start to interfere when the water depths gets to the separation distance between the transducers. If you have 20ft boat with a transducer on the TM and on the transom, you'll normally see interference starting around 20ft of depth.
I run Lowrance front and back, and seldom have problems.
The DI is a different frequency than the HDS, so you shouldn't see interference.
Have two Humminbirds 798 ci si hd one with trolling motor transducer and the other at the driver position with transducer on the jack plate they are hooked up with an ethernet connection , run both together all the time , no problems
krismac- I am not an authority on depth finders. Sometimes depth finders on the same frequency,200 htz, will run without interference. Sometimes if the transducer beams overlap they may cause interference. I have a stick steering boat like yours with one fish finder. A transducer on the trolling motor and a transducer on the bow with a switch to toggle back and forth. This is cheaper than another fish finder. Of course this does not provide a separate fish finder for the person on the back. Good luck hope you find a solution....
I have a HB 898SI and a HB 595c and both transducers are mounted on the transom. This reply gets confusing; but, I use the 595c when running fast and the HB 898SI when running slow (3-5 mph) and scouting for fish. Both have GPS capabilities. The transducer for the 898SI is about 4" from the bottom of the boat (that's right 4 inches) while the 595 transducer is mounted so that half of it is under the boat. I did not want my transducer for the 898 to be "in line" with the bottom of the boat; but, up high so as to be protected. Now, I couldn't and wouldn't do this if I did not already have the 595C which gives me lots of info including speed and depth. My 898 gives me speed, and depth as long as the 595 is off. However, AND FINALLY HERE IS MY POINT, if both transducers are on at the same time, the depth reading on my 898 could say I'm in 580 feet of water (for example) or 1 foot of water, when in fact I would be in twelve feet. So, I turn off the 595 and my 898 readings are perfect. Yes, since both transducers are operating at the same frequency they often interfere with one another.
