I am looking in to painting my jigs with glitter. I would mix the glitter with the powder paint clear coat with. Does it matter what type of glitter I use? Can I use glitter from a craft store or do i have to buy the stuff sold at fishing sites on-line?
I just started doing this myself. From what I have read, you should use head resistant glitter. I use the glitter that goes into plastics. Check out bears bait for glitter. For vinyl I think the glitter from walmart would work. That is what I have been using with vinyl and it works fine for me.

You can get the powder paint with glitter already in the paint.Tried mixing did'nt work so good.The powder paint with glitter works good have silver glitter,red,Gold and some that has several colors rainbow i think. Seems it works better with a white base coat!!!!!
Another option is dipping the heads in nail polish after it's been cured. There are a lot of nail polish colors that are basically glitter suspended in clear liquid. Just do your base coat, bake it, then paint the nail polish on the head and let it dry. You can also dip the head in the polish. I've gotten some very nice results this way.

Yes, if you are mixing glitter with powder paint, you want to make sure it is heat resistant or it will blacken and curl. We do not recommend mixing the glitter with an opaque color of powder paint as the powder paint will "absorb" the glitter and it will look just like a rough jig with no flash. You can mix the powder paint with the candy colors or translucent colors. If you are already powder painting jigs, the best bet is to use the clear powder paint with the glitter mixed in. Just paint the jigs the way you want, reheat if necessary and then dip in the clear with glitter.
I know guys that get their color mix add some clear to it and mix in glitter from JoAnne's or Hobby lobby and they cure and it works fine for them. So it is being done.
I read through all the threads I could find on this subject and determined the consensus to be putting glitter in powder clear coat. So, I bought some clear from CIS and bought some small tupperwear bowls from walmart. I made a small bowl of clear with silver, one with purple, etc. Then I went to painting jigs!!!!! Couldn't be happier with the results. One day I will get set up for pictures to better share. I have learned so much from this site that I need to share more. I have been working on making more posts. Oh, I also used heat resistant glitter. I also painted some A-rigs the other day. I made the base coat with powder. Then, I painted the details with vinyl using a small brush and then sprinkled glitter over the wet vinyl. I let them dry over night and then dipped them in clear vinyl gloss. I thought they looked pretty good. I let my 8 year old powder paint about 100 jigs the other day, with gitter, using the method I described above. So its not too hard. I use a heat gun for the heat source and needle nose pliers to hold the jig with. Do your research first and then figure out which methods works best for you. Also, I use a drill bit for dotting eyes. I learned every bit of this from this site and am passing it on to my boy. I am not in business or anything but I have been pouring, painting and tying my own jigs for a long time. I have recently started making spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, a-rigs. I have also bought all the stuff to pour soft plastics. I will get that set up for soft plastics this summer after proper ventilation has been installed. I am trying teach all this stuff to my boy. He knows the process for making all these baits but has not develped the mobility in his hands yet for real neat work. I don't let him pour jigs nor will I let him pour plastics when I get that going. He stands way back and watches. This hobby has been good to me because my son now loves to fish and make baits.
