you would use 2 hot wires one run through the manual switch and one run through the float switch conect to the hot wire to the pump.
The Fisherman's Electrical Manual - John C. Payne - Google Books great for anyone with a boat..free preview and only 18 bucks for the entire book
Shug , Papa is right ,you need a constant 12 volt wire in order for the pump to run automatically with the float switch.
This doesn't answer your question Shug, but I like the way Chuck Auten has his bilge pump...He has an auto-bilge that is straight wired to the battery...No switch at all...It always has the power running to it and only comes on when the float is activated whether you are on the lake or trailering it down the road...I am thinking that is the way I am going to go on the project boat I am working on....Just an idea.
Chuck has a pump with switch in it ithink he has a pump without switch . he is hooking up 2 different switches to a pump with no switch .
Thanks guys for the help I have my bilge pump run to a switch and works fine but I have the float as well that isn't hooked up . So I need to run a constant power wire from float to batt and splice it into bilge power wire then splice the brown wire into the brown wire is this correct
That is correct with a inline fuse or you could wire the float inline with the switch and the pump , as I have seen trash get stuck in a float and burn the pump up. This way you can control the power, just make sure not to forget to turn the switch on while on the lake or in a rainy situation.
