Advise on Barkley Redear and Bluegill, wher to find the this weekend?

Hey all, the girlfriend and I are coming down to Kentucky to pick up our new boat from BadBrad on here this weekend. We are real excited about that to say the least!! I've always wanted to try Barkley's Bluegill & Shell Cracker fishing, so we are hoping to kill two birds with one stone on this trip down. We will have a very limited window of time this weekend, so I am hoping that some of you would be willing to put us on some of your nice 'Gill fishing areas on Barkley for this time of year? For instance, which ramp and it's location to put in at, what pattern or how deep they'd be, and maybe what bait you'd use right now. We surely would respect the area and appreciate your help. We will only be able to fish for about 3 hours. Thanks to all that respond!

Kentucky Lake is about 160,000 acres of water.


Barkley Lake is 57,000 acres.

So both lakes cover over 220,000 acres of water.



The lakes both hold tens of thousands of Slab Crappie, and Keeper Bass.


And lots of good Redear, and Bluegille.


Any of the coves, and Bays can be good. Pick a bay and fish it, they can all be great in the Spring.

Tim, check out Eddy Creek on Barkley. It's probably closest to I-24 and it holds good numbers of redears and gills.

On your way out, could you be encouraged to take the transplant with you? He would be a great cheerleader for your area.

Thank you for the helpful reply Mrdux. I will try there. I have fished Kentucky Lake several times in tournaments for Crappie, but haven't wet a line at all on Barkley, or for it's Redears for that matter. Given the short time frame we have to fish on foreign water, not to mention the weather forcast, I wanted to increase the odds of my girlfriend being able to catch some decent fish instead of spending the whole time searching and being grumpy. I sure wouldn't mind bringing home a trophy Cracker from there to mount either!

I didn't know what you meant by "take the transplant with you"? Is Eddy Creek on the North 1/3rd of Barkley? Thanks for your help!!
