Hey guys - headed to Welaka and Crestcent Thursday and Friday and hoping to get some input on what the fishes liked at slabfest. I know it can change day to day but it will give me something to start with.
Did anyone go to the mouth of Dead Lake? Thanks - I hope to have some pics to finally post.

At the last Slabfest, 2 weekends back we found luck in Dead lake on both ends of the canal, but not much in the actual canal itself.
Inside Dead lake we found them in the mouth prior to the canal as well as the SW corner of Dead lake in 8-10 fow. We stayed in that SW corner and middle deeper water of that lake all day because it did seem to hold larger fish then anyplace else we tried the day before our event.
Even though it was cloudy and overcast the colors they perfered became very evident. ( acid rain, bright chartruse anything, and blaze orange/chartruse tail) 1/16 oz jigs / no weight, 30-40 feet behind the boat, produced a quailty fish each trolled lap. (1.0 to 1.3 mph troll)
I am also aware of of a friend finding some bigger fish at the mouth of the canal before you head around the corner to Dead Lake.
Other spots Ive heard about------- north end of the lake in 10 feet of water give or take a few feet. Just north of the island in center lake deeper water, and some members even found good fish pitching under the docks in deeper water on the west side of the lake.
small spinners 1/16 oz / should be on your try list as well.
Wish I could give you more accurate info on the lake, the only reason I felt I could assist is because our slabfest was there just a weekend or two ago, and these things at least worked ok that weekend :)

Stu cant thank you enough. If my dad and catch a mess it will be a bonus. Just spending a couple of days on the water with him will be great. I dont get to do it enough. He had heard good reports about the mouth of the canal to Dead Lake. Hope they are still there.
