Shed Hunting

Any of you shed hunt at all?

I went out yesterday morning and when I crossed the Camp Branch bridge holy cow the water is low. I didn't see anyone out fishing.

Anyway I headed out to check my trail camera and look for sheds and found a whopper within 150 yards of where I took a 140 inch 10 point this year. 25 inch main beams and 70 inches ( give or take a inch) of bone total. I am super pumped for next season. If he was 160 inches this year, can't wait for next!

When do the Morels start coming up around here? Back in Illinois and Ohio it was during Turkey season ( mid april) through Memorial day.

Hope to get the boat our real soon as well. Can't wait to get into some fish!

Thats a nice one for sure.Gonna hit the timber this weekend to do some shed hunting and till up the food plots.I usually start finding shrooms around turkey season but with this light winter they might pop sooner.

Went for a stroll in our timber yesterday for a few hours...........I didn't find any sheds, but I have located a bunch more great looking shroom spots.

The mushrooms should start around the first week or two of April....nice looking shed! If he survives the car hunters, he should be a real pig next fall.

I've never done any shed hunting, but have stumbled across a few while morel hunting. What do you do with them?

Some people just pile em up, some use them as a form of scouting, others use them as rattling horns, and yet others use them as decorative pieces in their house/cabin?

Personally, I've got a buddy that will hollow the main beam out (if it's wide enough in diameter) and make duck/goose calls out of them, which is a cool piece for us waterfowler's.

Thanks U! I guess I should probably start keeping the ones I find .. I don't hunt, but I'm sure some of my buddies could use them for hunting.

Like U said, people use them for many things. I use them as scouting tools. It tells me that a buck is using that part of the woods as his home territory. I then use the different trails leading into and out of the area to set up treestands for next year.

I also have a few smaller ones that eventually I will cut apart and have made into knife handles.

Mostly I use them for decorations around the mancave, or rattlers as well.
