What size/type of thread do you use?

I thought this would come up easily in a search, but no such luck. So, I must be the only one who doesn't know what type and sizes thread to use.

I'm tying your basic round-head, no-collar, marabou/hair/etc jigs in 1/8 and 1/16 oz.

I suspect I want to stay away from cotton due to durability, right? That leaves polyester, nylon, rayon, dacron...others.

I have one spool that says "40wt" and it seems okay for size....but what do I know? Nothing.

I use danville waxed 210 denier for chenille body jigs ,and 70 denier or 6/0 for thread necks , the 70 is alot thinner and doesn't build up as much . but it will breack alot easyr to solve this i have bobins just for the 70 that are set to grip the spool lighter .only use those bobbins with the 70,I have 10 bobbins total so I don't have to change for colors or sizes all the time

I have always used the flat waxed 210 .

As a fly tyer I use alot of 6/0 and 8/0 thread Uni brand. I bought a bunch of the 210 flat waxed and on some materials especially squirrel it works better than the Uni 6 adn 8/0.

For everything else I really don't worry about it cause I'm so used to using it. If all your tying is the stuff you listed stick with the 210 denier flat waxed and you should be fine.

I use the Danvilles Mono. fine Grandpa Bobs. Easy to hide and you dont have to match the color.

I use 140 flymaster for just about everything.

I use White River Kevlar for tight tying and GSP 50 or 100 if I'm building a bug body.

Flat waxed Danville mostly, but also some Of their 140 as well and some from Ultra Thread and a little 6/0. Now for flies I also have some 8/0 and as small as 14/0 plus the larger stuff already mentioned. I also use some mono on some things!

Flat waxed 210 nylon if the threads are going to show, polyester monofilament if they aren't. I buy Coats .04 at Joann's. It's about $1.75 for 400 yards.

I've used different threads while going through the learning process, and have settled on 140 Danville and uni more than anything else. I use whatever I can find when I need a color that isn't available in anything else, and break the smaller stuff regularly. I have a box full of thread that I might live long enough to use. 70 works very well on the 1/64 and smaller.
