Well, my nephew's truck is on the blink again..First a part in the transmission, 2nd a broken spark plug that required special tools to remove and now a leaking exhaust manifold..Has anyone tackled this problem? I understand that it is a hard job because of broken bolts. Ford recommends OEM parts as they have found a fix for this nationwide problem. Wonder why they won't do a recall?
Any help would be appreciated..

So far with my 08,5.4 I have had no problems. sadly, I let them change the oil periodically and allow them to do all the maintenance on it before problems occur. Sadly, it costs me an arm and leg too. I will keep close watch on this thread and learn from it.

check out some ford f150 forums, I'd be willing to bet this problem has been discussed, and probably a good how-to can be found posted by someone who is good with their hands and a camera.

Transmission, good luck! I've had 2 dodge and 1 chevy repaired and they weren't worth the powder to blow them up.
Spark plug tool, sounds like you know what you need. auto Zone rents tools. Compare their rental fee vs buying.
Manifold, is the leak coming from around the gasket or is it cracked? Gasket, are the mounting screws the right torque? Is one or two screws stripped from the block? Gasket shot? Cracked manifold, is there a heatshield over the manifold? I had a cracked manifold, and three stirpped screw holes. Previous owner had replaced two manifolds on the car and over torqued the mounting screws. Heat shield was trapping heat and causing the damage to the manifold. Drilled and cut vent holes in the heat shield. Added inserts and used different size mounting screws in the damaged holes.
I tried for many years to convert him but not any longer..When I do, he brings up the " hey Don, tell me more about that great 2007 Chevy Silverado".:yikesHe knows what I went through with that one...:mad:Quote:

Those spark plugs should be a recall. I don't know what Ford was thinking with that design. The bottom piece of the plug "welds" itself to the head and breaks off when the plug is removed. I have seen it take hours to replace eight plugs even with the removal kit. Ford knew there was a problem because the replacement plugs are designed differently to keep this problem from happening. It cost my brother-in-law over $300.00 to replace his. A friend of mine owns a repair shop amd he won't touch them if the original plugs are still in the engine.

Where have you been, Pesky? My nephew has corrected the spark plug problem by doing it himself but the manifold problem has him wondering whether to go with OEM or headers? Ford says their newly designed manifolds will solve the problem. I think he is just about finished with Ford.Quote:
