Newbe questions
Howdy everyone, ive been peeking for quite some time now and now that Duck season is over im trying to get on some fish. Fished 2 small reservoirs close to me and really struggled this weekend. ive researched on here and the web as much as i can and am really confused still. So a few questions that maybe yall can help with. i am more comfortable with Pole fishing than spider rigging.
In the current time mid feb, water was pretty clear, can see maybe 3-4 feet. i tried using minnows under bobber fished 4-6 feet deep nothing, body of water is 7 - 8 feet deep. i tried jigs, same method multiple colors no success. did i fail becuase of the clear water, or is the bobber teqnique for later in spring when in shallows only?
So thinking back i should have been casting jigs i am thinking. ive read alot about the fall of the jig and try different wieghts to effect rate of fall. But my question is, do you cast out jigs, let them sink and then try to jig them? seems to me theyd be on the bottom or the retrieve would get it out of the area. or should i have just cast spin jigs at them? i want to learn to use jigs only but am lost! on you tube i watched dray, looked like he was casting jigs, no bobber and just letting them fall, is that all there is to it, and then just cat again and let it fall, or do you jig it. just trying to get a bite.
I also tried jigging straight down around cypresses and that didnt work either. HELP PLEASE!
was around England if anyone is super familar with area.

Jigging with out a quark usually consists of catching fish on bottom that may be layed up in a rock pile of some sort.(atleast thats the only way i have done it,there may be other ways) basically how i have always done it is throw it out, let it sink for howeever long, then reel it very very slow. Thats how i have always done it although there are most likely other ways that i am not familiar with

Man If I lived in England I would be fishing Clear Lake I know for a fact this lake is loaded with some Nice Crappie, cos Ive caught them there. Try fishing about 12 inches off the bottom around cypress, stumps, logs, you find just off the bank or in the cypress trees at each end of the lake. 1/32OZ heads Chart or pink head painted with eyes, wht/chart, yellow/chart, purple metal black/Chart tubes or hair jigs, keep switching colors till you find one that works. Tip with white or Chart nibbles. They also love a minnow on this lake and I have used Rosey red with great results with a slip bobber. They will be moving up on the banks there real soon. But if you are not getting bites then try the log lay downs and docks in deeper water along main lake banks, verticle jig with a 1/16 or 1/8th oz head and tubes or deepin up with your slip bobber and minnow rigs. Keep moving until you find a log dock or cypress trees they are in. Last time I was there right at the boat dock you will see two or three large logs tied together in about 8-10 foot of water these logs are over brush somebody sunk around them tie off and fish right down in there around the logs with minnow slip bobber rigs or jigs. If you are going to jig fish always use a quality 10-12 foot jig rod, 6-8 lb test line, loop knot and i believe in tipping a crappie nibble. Main Thing is stay after em and dont give up and I promise you will find Silver Glory on the water. Welcome to the board, ask for help on here, try to go with some of the experianced jig fisherman on here. The best way to learn is to go with somebody who knows what they are doing. Good Luck... Now get after em and dont give up I promise It will happen for you, just takes time to learn.
