alternative crappie breadings

I do love crappie coated in cornmeal, but wanted to try something new. So i tried the following:
1) homemade beer batter
2) panko breadcrumbs
3) beer bater with breadcrumbs on top
4) coated in hushpuppie batter

beer batter wasnt anything special, not too great (cornmeal is better)
panko breadcrumbs was the best. i coated the crappie in flour and milk and egg first
beer batter with breadcrumbs fried too fast without letting the fish cook, far too heavy
and hushpuppy batter i thought would be great! it was terrible. yuck

And the winner is : PANKO BREADCRUMBS, they were great, super crunchy yet light

My kids only want panko. I like traditional cornmeal best, lot less labor intensive. Try some blackened, it's great!

x2 on the blackened. Have y'all ever tried blackened stripers? UM um good!!

You probably would corn flakes crumbs as well. My favorite id to mix panko and cornflake crumbs 50/50.

Well pan fry em with a little butter n evoo using panko. Hit em with a good squeeze of lemon juice when theyre done n yummmmmm

Try scrimp the.way you talking . Deep fried n panko n omg they fine

Something different on the beer batter, I used sprite or 7up instead of beer. The sugar in the soft drink caramalizes, gives the fillets a slight nutty citrus sweetness. The fillets willl be very dark brown, instead of light golden when done.

hmm interesting, and will have to try the cornflakes next time!
