Can someone explain how to drift/troll for cats? Can it be done in a river or does it only work in lakes? I have catfished all my life but we always fish on bottom. Also what baits work for drift/trolling and what type of water do you look for? Any info would help.
The way we do it is, Either drifting with the wind or with trolling motor.. Drop a drift sock out the back to slow you down to around .5 mph. I use santee drift rigs, meaning swivel tied on main line, leader tied to other end of swivel, leader is about 3 foot long 2.5-3 inch bobber peged about 5-6 inches up from circle hook. my hooks are from 5/0 -8/0.. and the most important ingredient in a drift weight about 1oz attached up at the swivel.. Google drift weight, slinky weight, snake weight.. All those will get you the idea of the weight. I make mine with paracord and #4 buckshot. Basically while you are drifting the weight drags the bottom while the bobber keep your bait up off the bottom al little. I use perch,shad,brim,bass, crappie.. normal catfish bait.. Normally drift river channels, flats, and humps.. I lakes.. Hope that makes sense and helps

i just tight line straight under the boat . pick up and sit over about a foot as you move along . caught tons at enid /sardis/ pickwick doing this .
It works, find muddy bottoms close to little sand bars. I normally use minnows with just a little bit of pinch weights and a circle hook
