I got one off ebay and have no problems with it. I use denatured alcohol and lights up every time.
Just make sure it has a 1/4" wick. I paid a bit more for the one I still use for the last 6 years even though I got one off eBay. I still like that it has a screw on lid and they sell them at Barlow's Tackle. I also have one that is metal and only has a 1/8" wick and don't like it, but that is most a personal opinion!
I have acquired a good alcohol lamp and it does have a 1/4 inch wick but it came without a cap. It works great but I have to choke it out buy holding a pickle jar on top of it. I also suspect that my alcohol is wicking out and evaporating while not in use. I don't know where to get a cap that will fit it.
Yes your alcohol will evaporate and I have a cap for the other 2 I have, but this one I got from Barlow's also screws on to keep the alcohol in and it does a pretty good job. Have to be careful how tight I put it on, because just a little to much and it's hard as heck to get off, LOL! The metal one would be my best except for the 1/8" Wick and the one off ebay has a cap, but no screw on so for right now it sits.
Recently bought one from Barlows. Seems to work pretty good. It doesn't make near as much noise as the heat gun I used to use!!! LOL
That's pretty funny! I am near having to replace my wick for the first time and have used it for 6 years and painted a lot of heads.Quote:

Yes that is it. Mine has no gold still showing though, LOL! Love it even if I do think it over priced. Still though have not found another one like it. Have bought several and always something wrong with them for me.
