Brittle Jig Heads
Just started tying my own jigs. I have bought some cheap jig heads from wallmart in the recent days, and I am now learning that they are cheaply made. Has anybody experienced tying a jig on wallmart jig heads and breaking them? I think it's time to visit crazyanglertackle.com I have to bite the bullet and get some decent heads with good hooks! WALLMART nonono

My prob with the wall crap has bin the paint popping off before i ever use them.
I get mine by the 100 now off ebay and paint myself. I need to get off my butt and just bite the bullet and get a mold.

I never was too happy with wally world's fishin selection most of the stuff is bottom end or just plain ole junk.

Several folks on here, creekslick comes to mind, that make very nice jigheads, plus you get to put the hook you like in em. I always go that route. No more than I tie, I can't justify pouring my own, although it sounds like fun.

Are the jig heads breaking? Or is it the hooks? If the heads are breaking, then I would question the lead content: Cadmium and other "blended scrap" / lead metal alloy maybe. Lead is very workable, not brittle. I have talked to several people that have had brittle hook problems from imported jigs.

Depending on the type hooks and head you want there are several here on CDC that you cam get good jig heads from. Grousefly, lightwirehooker come to mind as well as Nightprowler and Rondon I can think off just now!

Lots of the members on the sponsor classified sell on ebay too, but why pay more so that ebay can get paid. Buy from a member when you can and both benefit. I pour some too but not on the scale some of the others do. Good quality available here.

Some of the heads Walmart sells are junk. They do sell some Luck"E"Strike heads with Gamakatsu hooks that I have had good success with. Below I attached a pic of some I tied with those heads.
