Trolling Motor Batter Question

I just recently bought a new to me boat. I have a 12 volt terrova that is the only thing hooked to the battery. My battery is only holding a charge for about 2 hours. I took the battery and had it checked and it checked out good. With that being said, this is the same battery and trolling motor that was on my old boat that was working fine. I had the auto parts store charge the battery with their charger to see if my charger might be bad. When I got home, I hooked up the battery to the trolling motor. The test button on the trolling motor only showed 2 bars lit up. Does anyone know from the info I have given as to what might be the problem and why my battery is not holding a charge? Could the plug or line to the battery be bad? Thanks in advance for any help!

Does the new setup have the battery farther away than it was in your old boat? What size wires are on it? What kind of battery do you have?

If nothing has changed with battery or TM, that just leaves wiring in new boat.

The distance is about the same, and the battery is an advanced auto brand. It could be that the wire is too small. What size wire do I need for a 12 volt terrova?

Battery testing is not very useful on a deep cycle. Deep cycles normally fail by just getting smaller and smaller capacity as you use them over time.

What kind of charger are you using, what battery and how old is it?

I'd recommend charging the battery fully, then disconnecting the charger and letting the battery sit overnight. Then measure the voltage at the battery terminals. You should see 12.65V on most batteries. A few are higher.

I use 8 gauge, even on short runs for TM's. Anything the maker requires 60 amp fuse on needs heavy gauge. CatFan had good idea charge and leave over night and check voltage. Did you run battery down and not charge right away when getting rid of old boat and new boat? Lead acid batteris do not like sitting even a few days after being run down without being charged.
