You need a micro SD map card (Navionics/Hot Spots) for your area of the country. The internal map program, that comes preloaded in the unit, will only give you a basic outline (shoreline) of the lake.
I've got the same unit, and have a thread running on here about it. Feel free to join in, and be sure and read thru the thread, as there's a lot of good explanatory info that might interest you & help you utilize the unit for the best results.

I have contour lines on mine at least when I zoom in on Table Rock Lake. I have updated the unit but I don't think that made any difference. I don't have any additional map card, just the internal map that came with the unit.
Seriously ?? Wow, that would be great if the internal maps did show contours. I didn't try it on the lake I had mine out on, and doubt it's big enough to qualify. Even if the contours weren't more than 10' increments, that would still give you a better shot of it. I wonder if it shows contours for "any" lake you're on, or just "major" lakes (or just a few specific ones) ?? I guess I'll need to put that on my "to do" list ... learn how to zoom in on the map !!
Yeah, I don't think the update added contours ... otherwise it would have said it did, or I'd think so, anyway.
Ya'll just keep on discussing this unit's capabilities & tweaks ... the more I learn about it, the more I think I got more for my money than I expected Rofl

thanks for the reply fellas, im fishing a 650-acre reservoir,on the map the backround is brown with no shorelines just my position. so i have a brown screen with a arrow on it?
In that case, I doubt that ANY map card would have contours for that small a body of water. You may even have trouble finding a paper map with much in the way of contours.
If it was me, and I was fishing a lake that size .... I'd troll the heck out of it, and mark my trails & waypoints, and use that as my map. Jus' sayin' ...
