Best way is to pop your old one off and take it with ya. There's only about 3 different sizes and one of them is pretty dang rare.
Wannabe...
One of mine fell off on my way home from Grenada. Of course I didn't know about it until I had burnt my bearings and spindle up.
I would advise you to use real Bearing Buddies. I tried a set of imitations once and could not keep them in. Had to check every trip and at the ramp. They were just small enough that they would start working out running down road. Replaced with real ones and never had that problem again. Put 2 inside seals in back to back one to keep grease in and 1 to keep water out.
i had a problem years ago with bearing buddies working back out. a friend of mine took a small sharp chisel and ran a groove inside the bearing hub a inch or so in three places. never lost another one.
Larry......what do you have on there now ?
My last two trailers did not have bearing buddies......they had something that I really like better. There is a rubber plug in the dust cover on the hub.....you pull the rubber plug out and there is a alemite in the end of the spindle.....the spindle is drilled so that all the new grease goes in behind the back bearing and then out through it to and through the front bearing. So what it does is completely changes the grease in your hubs if you pump enough new grease into it. You just fold a piece of card board into a V and place under your spindle nto catch the old grease, pump away untill you see new grease coming out......put the rubber plug back in and your good to go......do this once a year. About every 4 years replace the rear bearing seals and thats all the maintenance needed. Just keep a eye on the rubber plugs because they will dry rot, and replace when neccessary. Oh yes....use a good lithium based marine grade waterproof grease.
