I am wanting to shine up my 2006 e tec. I scrapped off all the old decals but I have scratchs from my pad left on the finish. I have all new decals ready to put on it but I was wondering what all I shoud do to get the cover shiny and free of scratches? Do I need to buff everything out before I install the decals and then out some wax on it? Any suggestions would be welcome
assume the cover is plastic, plastic scratch remover by 3m and other makers as well, look in the wax area at wally world or parts store, i've used it on my motorcycle windshield before (clear plexi or lexan) and removes scratches, should not harm the paint.

well, the scratch remover is applied like wax, but you have to rub or polish it more to remove the scratches. Then wipe it off, and see how it looks, and then round 2/3/4 as needed. Clean the surface good with a damp rag, apply your decals, then wax. The stuff I've used will remove light/superfacial scratches, if the scratches are deep, you can try some polishing compound or rubbing compound, as each have different levels of abrasives. The rubbing compound is for really rough/oxidized surfaces, go easy with it to see how it does. I would try the plastic scratch remover, then polishing compound then rubbing compound depending on how bad the scratches are. If you've polished/waxed a car, same concept but your dealing with painted plastic, not metal, so its a different type of paint imo.

Maguires cleaner to get off any old wax dirt, maguires polish until you get out scratches, install decals and then carnuba wax.
