get the griffin brand with the ceramic tip, I like the longer model as it fits my hand better.
The griffin is good, but there are a good many equal to it. Dr. Slicks are as good as any too. One of the best is a Rite which are a bit high, but you can also set how much pressure it puts on the thread so is superior when using thinner stuff and the entire tube is ceramic!
You Mustve damaged yours. Unless your wraps and angles are wrong, it shldnt be cutting or fraying. Buy the cheapest one n get back at it.
I have had more than one cheap bobbin that cuts thread and I just converted to to lead with bobbins. Not all cheap bobbins are thread cut free!
Griffin and make sure you get a full ceramic not just tip. You will be happier in the log run.
Ok I am about to reveal one of my trade secrets. When I get a bobbin I take a wooden match sharpen it on one end chuck it up in a power drill and put some jewelers rouge on the match and polish the inside of the tube both ends. This will help in not cutting the thread. I buy the cheapest bobbins that I can find. I don't have any trouble with any of the thread that I use. Where can you buy Jewelers rouge. Try Home Depot, or Hobby Lobby I have seen it there. I bought a pound of it before I retired so I would have a life time supply.
Keep the match charged with rouge and you can add a little 3 in 1 oil with the rouge to have it work a little faster. The problem with this is cleaning out the tube with the oil. I buy water soluble red rouge. and you simple run soapy water thur the tube and it is clean. Take a hair dryer if you want to dry it out fast or use a pipe cleaner if you have one. I also take a fine sharping stone and run the out side of the tube around the top. You could use a fine piece of sand paper for this if you like. Even a fine Emory board!!! You can recondition a old bobbin by his method. Have fun and save some money!!!!

Thanks Redman .
BPS has some with ceramic inserts for about $8 that work well for me.
Best one I've used: Ceramic Tube Thread Bobbin, Fly tying bobbin
