I am going to change my bow pedestal from the kingpin type the the taper-lock and buy an adjustable pedestal. Is it necessary to buy the kind that locks so the seat won't spin? If any of you have had experience with this I would appreciate your advice!
I haven't had real good luck with adjustable "air ride" and such. In a taper lock I couldn't tell you about the hi/lo ones either. I'm getting ready to replace one myself and I'm going with the 13" fixed. It seems the more moving parts, the more moving problems for me.
Thanks for your input crappiedoc. I have a 13" fixed that is too low. I also have a 16" fixed that works pretty good. My kingpin base is worn out so thought I would change to the taper lock. My thinking was the adjustable would be a little easier on my old knees while running the foot control on my trolling motor. Maybe I should just replace the base!:fish
I believe you can buy replacement bushings for your pedestal base
That is interesting. Have you seen them for sale some place? I know I could have one made at a machine shop, but it would cost more than a new base.
I have an adjustable and I love it.
Some do wear out but if t cost $100 and I get 4 years out of it and I'm more comfortable I'm good with that. I've had 2, 1 lasted about 4 years and this one is probably 7 years old.
I think these things are easier on my knees, I'm not all scrunched up or stretched out. I bet if you try one you won't go back.

I have always liked Swivl-Eze Wedge Power Pedestals and and have put them in all the boats I have owned. I have never had a problem with any of them. I like the wedge and heaver post makes me a little more secure, I'm a little heavy.....The best part is being able to adjust the height that sure makes a better day on the water being comfortable. I'm past heavy, I like those power pedestals just have had some problems. My buddy hates my seats and brings his own 13" fixed but it's the seat. I sat on his seat one day and that's where it's at, a good seat is the ticket. I'm thinking it was a Cabelas brand seat, made for us tiny folks. Maybe he'll see this post and fess up.Quote:
