I bought a Lowrance HDS 5 and I am trying to figure out the best location to install the skimmer transducer, any body have pictures that they can show? I have never done this so I am pretty nervous about drilling holes in the boat and it not being the correct location.
Don't drill. Glue it in the bilge. It works better, is less likely to be damaged and doesn't require drilling.
Do I have to have a through hull transducer or can I use the skimmer transducer?
You can use the skimmer. I find them easier to mound than the puck type since the are easier to set on an angled hull. If you want the temp to work, call LEI and see if they'll exchange the skimmer for a puck with remote temp. They used to do it for free, but it may take a few weeks.
