You could clear coat them. (clear powder paint, nail polish...) But if i go to that much trouble Im painting them a color!
If your not going to paint them right away get them in an air tight container. But whatever you use to cover them - use the same type of paint when you go to finish them.
If u want them to keep the shine, use TIN, not lead. Not the same weight, but close enough, and they shine good for a long, long time without any coating..
I paint mine with silver metallic finger nail polish
I dip the ones I want to keep gray and shiny in clear coat nail polish.
Some have gone to getting them electroplated. I have nickle ones and they work great and shine forever.
I have some that are Nickel Plated, some Silver Powder Paint and some I clear coat with clear nail polish if someone wants unpainted heads.

I used to clear coat some. Now I've been dipping my weedless ones in 2 part epoxy. Keeps the heads shiny but it also helps keep the weedguard in place.
