Get the NMEA starter kit from LEI.
Canepole has some good advice...Something you may want to consider is calling Justin at 3Rivers Marine. When I set up my etech with nmea 2000 I talked to him over the phone and he pretty much led me through the process. Since then I have added the lgc 4000 and it was a snap to add on to the system. Just make sure you get the correct female terminators (120 ohm). Really not that hard especially after you talk to someone over the phone and they can fill you in on the do's and don'ts.
Let's say a guy buys the network starter kit, and buys a lgc-4000 on ebay that is the puck only, is it safe to assume that he'd be missing an extension that he'll need?
my 4000 came with the...guessing, 18" cable. Can't remember about the kit..seems like I bought an extra power node. Bought the kit from 3Rivers...4000 from BOE.
I bought all my stuff from Lowrance. They told me what I needed. There sre several links to network hoop up.
I bought a start up kit from BBG for my jon boat.
I guess my next question is will there be a significant enough improvement in performance to justify the $250+ for everything.
I'm going to err on the side of Tom on this one. Components on the way.
