The motor will start and run. But under load the motor falls on its face. Also the motor will rev up fine in idel but under load it dies off.
This not my motor but it is close friend and he takes me fishing so I need to find some answers.
Any help would great?
Sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Check carbs, fuel lines and pump-up bulb. If it has had ethanol in it the linings of the fuel lines may be coming apart and plugging things up.
A test to determine if it is fuel or electrical, launch boat, try to take off as normal and when it boggs down push in the key to choke the engine, if it try's to go it's a fuel related problem, if it kills it , it is an electrical problem, possibly stator, which Merc has always had problems with. Try this and see what goes.

KS, you were given very good advice above. Is this built in tank or portable? Having same problems,with a boat I just picked up.. I replaced all fuel lines and filter . I did find alot of trash in lines.
trash was even in carbs .. removed screws at side of ec carb(near bottom) and flushed using spray carb cleaner, then back flushing by sweezing primer ball till fuel ran out of carbs freely.
CDI Electronics makes the best aftermarket parts out there. They even stock the stators that Mercury has service Bulletins on that require red stator and alot of wiring changes. I think you can buy direct from CDI, you will need the serial number when ordering parts.

You can take your plugs out and see if one of them looks like it's not firing right but it's hard to tell when it only does it under a load or at high speed.
