I fish mostly from a kayak and on land so space is limited. I was wondering about this type of depth finder. Does it work well for the money and how compact is it? What type of batteries does it use. I tried searching the internet but I have not had any luck yet.

1 thing I remember Greg posting is to be sure and store the green "castable xducer" in a DRY place....it is water activated and moisture (like in a tackle box) will activate the battery and cause it to run down...
The battery in the green "castable xducer" is non-replacable....
Only the battery in the unit head display can be replaced...

I have an rf10 on my remote controlled boat. The rf10 is the one with the dick tracy wrist display. I have a range of about 65 feet. It is not high resolution, but I can find stuff with it. I have had it 5-6 years. Have to replace the green float on occasion. Lots better than wading or dragging a treble hook.
I have an RF15 and it has worked pretty well on my 'yak. I bought mine on Amazon. The first transducer that came with it was a bit of a dud - only worked for about three fishing trips then died. I was pretty disappointed but thought I would try another one, and picked up a replacement transducer at Cabela's for $25. It so far has lasted me for the rest of the season (Sept-Oct). I even dorked it off a concrete dock once (and thought for sure I killed it) but it is still going fine. I couldn't find much info on these so once I got mine I decided to do a video review:
