I purchased a Hb1198 with transom transducer and can only read the bottom on 2d up to 10 to 11 mph. Just wanted to know which model transducer is for high speed reading and do I mount it higher than the SI transducer. And do I use the Y cable that came with unit to connect both transducer to the head unit. Thanks for any input on this.

that second transducer mounted though the hull along with our transducer that you already have mounted high would be the better option . heres some pictures. i actually get a better bottom return on the di view
Kosmo, I have a deepv riveted aluminum tracker boat. I don,t think the through hull will work because I can't mount it completely flat. I thought I seen a small transom mounted transducer on a video on youtube that hummingbird makes for high speed. Kosmo are the pictures from the standard SI transom transducer or your through hull transducer? If thay are from the transom transducer how low do you have mounted below the rear of the boat. Thanks
i have only one transducer,the standard transducer that comes with the unit.its the same transducer that you have.im not at home at the moment im trying to find a picture of it mounted to my boat for you. i think you miss understood my post. my fault, bad spelling and bad typing .the point that i was trying to get across was that you can use the standard transducer at speeds to 45 mph + maybe more,but if the transducer is mounted in this way theres always the chance of hitting something . mine is directly in front of my aboard motor to my boat just barely lower than the bottom of boat. just enough to keep water flowing over the bottom of transducer . i believe that if i ever do hit something its going to get the lower unit of motor to. i really dont think the cost of new transducer going to be issue .im not familiar with the true hull transducer.but i do believe that would be the better option for high speed. that would keep your transducer out of harms way .i think you need to talk to humminbird greg about your setup. hes the best
heres the picture of transducer mounted to my boat.just above the transducer is the overflow drain for my livewell. i ran my transducer cable up through the drain hole :cool:

That Y-cable that came with your 1198 unit is for connecting a GPS Receiver plus another accessory to your unit – it has nothing to do with the transducers (those are different cables).
That Deep-Vee riveted hull is one of the hardest to mount a transducer on for high-speed depth readings. It generates a lot of air bubbles when moving fast and air bubbles are killers for sonar readings. You could try a second transducer like the XNT-9-20 or even the XSO-9-20-T as they are both smaller and would be easier to find that sweet spot that you will need to find for good high-speed depth readings. You would need the AS-Si-BD-Y splitter cable to connect it and the HDSi transducer you now have to your 1198 unit. If you want to go this route than it would be best to mount the XNT-9-20 transducer on the opposite side of the motor from the HDSi transducer as this will help minimize any Si sonar blockage (the XSO transducer mounts under the hull so that would not be a concern – but it would need to be mounted in a location that would have it pointing close to straight down when the boat is in the water). I will harn you up front here that not all have had success in getting high-speed depth readings on their boats due to how the water (and air bubbles) flow off of the hull. You may just want to try adjusting the HDSi transducer you have now by lowering it farther below the hull and giving the back end a very slight downwards tilt.

I have two boats and two SI transom transducers so I will adjust the first one on one boat to see if it helps any before mounting the second one on the other boat. I will be switching the 1198 head unit back and forth when family trips happen.
