which would be better?
I am thinking about a new fish finder - GPS Combo, and can not decide whether to get the Hummingbird 798ci hd Si or the 798ci si. All I can find out is that the hd has a better pic, but is that worth the extra money. And is there any good sales at this time? Help me decide ok? I will let you know what I picked in about a week. Thanks

The HD is the upgraded version that has Ethernet capabilities.

transducer
I read the transducer is better on the hd version, that is why the pic is better.

The unit without the "HD" is probably an early 2010 model or earlier....Before ethernet came available...
Also, the "HD" did not change the pixels in the screen....HB just decided to add the ""HD" to the new model name because it already had the highest pixel count possible in the industry...
You can take advantage of HB's xducer trade in policy and trade the "unopened" compact SI xducer for the HDSI xducer....some people can see a difference in the image quality of the HI DEF HDSI xducer...Over the compact SI xducer that comes with the 798...
If there is a way for you to call that retailer and have him state the serial number that is printed on the box... We can tell you when that unit was manufactured...
Some retailers incorrectly list the model numbers that they advertise...

Once you update the software in the older 798ci Si model; it will operate the same as the newe 798ci HD Si model except that it will not have the Ethernet capability. If you are not ever going to use the Ethernet connection than you might want to save some money and jump on that non-HD model. Just be sure to register it and update the software.
