I just picked up a used boat that has a BPS 3bank charger. My (?) differnt brand- 2 bank chargers have lights on them letting me know when batts are charging (red) and when charged (green). Is there a light on these? maybe the way its mounted I can not see it-- Or no lights and it just turns of as each batt is charged? ( I really don't know for sure how they work)-- when I got it- it only had 2 batts connected -- is that OK?
see if you can read the model # for it and then google it , might come up with some info to help you out.
It depends on the age. The last two versions have had charge indicators on them.
Boat is and 84 so charger is prob- old. ( hanging head upside down) I looked at it again, I did see 2 lights. 1 was "power" light (it was on since unit is plugged in) the other says "charging" (it was off)
I will hook up batt that needs charging and see if it "charging light" on.
Does anyone know if its OK to just connect 2 batts and leave one set of wires disconnected?
Its OK to leave these things plugged in , because the turn themselfs off when not needed correct?
Should be okay to use two batteries. Just take fuses out of lines and protect the ends of the wire.
Every set of instructions on chargers I have seen tell you to hook up any left over leads to a battery, normally the starting battery. If you don't the charger is going to think there is a bad battery at the end of that lead and I would imagine the "charged" light never will come on.
AH, the second light may say "charged" -- not "charging" . I guess its just easier to remove 4 mounting screws-- so I can get a good look at it!
BTW, after 24hrs- it did charge one batt or both -- I noticed several lights courtesy lights on :)
I do plan to run 2 deepcycles (24v TM) and 1 starting batt, have them waiting to be installed. ( After I check out wiring job do on this boat.)

I was just wondering if these newer style chargers "senses" each batt individually, and charges each of them when needed ? (indiviually or at same time if needed)

I agree with B Bill-----You need to connect that 3rd set of leads to a battery. I killed an onboard charger by not doing that.
