Brownlee has been slow but they have been catching fish often on the fish that they are catching her nice size mainly in deeper water from 30 to 40 feet. I know some you guys are from Oregon that come here to visit and read about brownlee reservoir would you like to see Oregon added to the list if there is enough interest I might take the job is monitor.
no change for Brownlee they are catching fish down deep you may have to chop a little ice in the Powder River arm to fish too darned cold for me it has been down to 4° in the mornings I believe I'm one of those sunny fishermen so we will wait for spring to warm up things there are a few brave guys fishing but it is slow.

I'd like to see a Northwest section. Brownlee is on the border between Oregon and Idaho. Idaho has some good crappie waters too. Saw some real slabs come out of CJ Strike last year.
we may have to take this one on ourselves we just got through talking to the hitching post are thorny and have talked to a few fishermen crappie fishing and Brownlee is slow those fish are down deep the perch should be on the bite directly.Quote:

Bob, thank you again for your time.. I got hooked on crappie fishing after a friend took me down to Brownlee a few years ago, at that time I was still in the service so didn't really have much time fishing like I'd like to. I spent the last few years oversea working for Defense Contractor and had no fishing time at all.. I ventured down to Brownlee couple times last year but the water was really low, fishing was also slow plus I didn't know what I was doing.. I signed up on this site hoping to learn more from the experts out there especially ones from the Northwest Area. Again, thank you for your valuable times..

the latest report on Brownlee reservoir I have bad news for most of the locals and also for the people that travel to this great reservoir they have lowered Brownlee down 20 feet they are going to continue to lowered to 40 feet this means that launching boats won't happen I personally do not know why they are lowering the reservoir that will because there is no baby salmon to be flushed down and if they were talking about flood control we do not have any snowpack so don't know what their excuse is now anyway that is the latest and we will keep you updated when I can.
I apologize for not answering you on this post sooner if you would like to know any information pertaining to pan fishing especially for crappie I would gladly help you out in any way I can I hope the recent information that I posted this it makes things look any better for pan fishing and Brownlee reservoir we are currently looking for property out of the state of Oregon probably in the south someplace where the crappie fishing is a lot better and maybe up north in Minnesota I moved to this part of the country in Oregon to have the greatest crappie fishing there was since I lived here for 10 years now in the crappie fishing goes up and down like a yo-yo because the water levels in Brownlee I wish they would get their act together and leave the water alone we never had this problem for many years in the past I would like to add that was the greatest fishery for crappies that there ever was in the past I would say for many many years that we really enjoyed fishing here but since they started lowering the water up and down I have not enjoyed the fishing like it was it would definitely help the situation if everyone would definitely write a letter to the appropriate people maybe there will be something down but if we do not act at all they will continue to destroy this fishery so please contact your state representatives in Idaho Washington and Oregon pertaining to Brownlee reservoir and give them your impact very important that you do this immediately.Quote:

The Corp of Engineers uses Brownlee for flood control for Portland which leads to spring drawdowns that destroy the spawn. Once the Snake River salmon were listed as endangered in the mid-90's there are also drawdowns throughout the season to maintain river flows for salmon spawning. What I do think we can change to our benefit is getting a limit placed on the crappie. Instead they lasted about 4 1/2. Fishing really slowed down in summer and fall of 2010 and was really off for most 2011. Most of that year class was harvested from 2007 -2009 as 7"-9" juvenilles and they went out by the 1000's. With the difficult spawning conditions at Brownlee extending the years of harvest throughout the 7 year average life-cycle of the crappie by limiting the catch makes for a sound biological argument. I've submitted a proposal to ODFW with this recommendation. These fish are now 7 years old and some beautiful fish will be caught this year. It's just a shame that there won't be many of them.
