CF ... I don't have that particular model Garmin, but I do have a Garmin Nuvi 205W GPS that I've used in my truck, over the last couple of years.
With Lifetime updates (for my unit) costing $90 .... getting a model with the "free for the lifetime of the unit" updates is a good choice. You would also want the unit to speak the actual NAMES of the roads/streets that it's telling you to turn onto (mine does not, it only tells you to turn in XX miles while showing you the route/turn on the screen).
You may also need to purchase a USB plug-in wire ... in order to hook the unit up to your home PC (for updates, registration, etc). Mine did not come with one, but my digital camera came with a USB connector wire/plug .. and it works with my Garmin. (mine is a shorter version of this one - ( http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-2700.../dp/B000067RVL )
Mine came with the suction cup mount ... and it's simple & easy to use. However, I did read that thieves on the lookout for GPS units are targeting vehicles with the "suction cup ring" on the windshield ... so, wiping that "ring" off, afterwards, is a easy precautionary method for hiding the fact that a GPS unit may be in the vehicle. I purchased a small camera case, that all the stuff fits into, and use that to store & transport it in.
... cp
they work as advertised, my wife loves hers, I have last years model, they are really accurate, got the free map updates, they are good also. some road improvements not on there yet, traffic warnings in the bigger cities are great, shows detours to take, pretty nice units
I have it and I love it, especially the big screen and the talking lady. Easy to use. I bought a sandbag type mount so to move it to/from vehicles. Mine came with the usb charger. I use my camera USB cable and camera case like cp.
Yes by all means get her the Garmin sandbag mount, sets on dash where ever and doesn't slide at all. When I have to park @ restaurant/store I just remove Garmin from dash & place on floor fits partially under right seat out of view, also place a tan towel (same color as interior) over it.
Thank You Guys for all the replies.CF
I am well pleased with mine. Just make sure you get the latest update when you register it.
