Oconee Reports for Wednesday 12/14/11

We fished from 8-4 today. Caught 35 kept 17 nice ones. Should have left at 11:00 because they shut off then, but you know us diehards. Golfprocrappieman was there and we tagged team them again, both of us was catching them up until this time. Met John Anderson and his friend today at the ramp at take out and we talked a good bit about spider rigging and crappie.com. Nice to meet you both. Today was absolutely awesome weather wise on the lake. Not marking as many fish they seemed to be scattered more. Saw water temps from 56-58 degrees today. Next few days will be in the low 70s ya'll go get um!

Sounds like you guys had a good day to me. I wont be able to go again until after Christmas. Oconee is lake I fish 99 percent of the time and its a 2 hour ride for me and the Christmas gifts have taken all of my play money. Lol!
So what usualy happens in January as far as the fish goes? Never crappie fished in January or Febuary. I mainly tightline in the stumps, brush and timber.

The fish generally school up in the deeper parts of the river and creek channels and stage in those areas say in the 15-30 foot range This is the time of year your biggest fish will be caught. Spider rigging is a good way to nail them. You could just use two poles in your hands off the front of the boat just like spider rigging. Fish are from 8-14 feet. Mainly at 12-14ft during these times mostly. Minnows or minnow tipped jigs are the ticket. Go slow .2 - .4 mph

I broke a newbie in right wednesday! We culled through quite a few and wound up with 20 - 13" and bigger....Nice slabs....Started real slow...I was afraid I was gonna have to get that guy out of my boat!!! When it started around 8ish...bite stayed pretty good till about 11am just like country time said.....Wednesday morning was alot better than Tuesday afternoon!!!
