Does anyone have the 45 inch shaft Terrova installed on their bass boat? Do you have any issues retrieving the unit and wish you would have went with the longer motor? I am getting ready to drop the dough on a 24v 80lb Terrova with iPilot right after the first of the year and want real world input on the issue. I am worried that the 60" may be WAY too long on my bassboat hull.
i found a new terrova with a 60'' shaft for a heck of a deal, i was worried about the long shaft though but was told a authorized technician could cut it and still keep the warranty, anyway i bought it, mounted it like it was and have used it about 10 times, i love it, i have the motor 2' below the surface and have about 16'' above the motor mount sticking up wich aids in pulling the unit back in the boat, just watch when you mount it that you angle the mount in such a way that the head doesn't stick outside the boat, i have a 18' ranger bass boat and i am very pleased with mine, would a 54 inch be better, well maybe but i would not go any shorter and for the money i save i love mine!! i got mine off of amazon shipped to my door for 698. it was a 80 us2 60'' shaft terrova w/ipilot brand new. they had two of them and i got lucky and got one.
That is a heck of a deal. You shoulda bought a lottery ticket that day,you mighta got lucky twice.
I had a 45" Terrova on a bass boat and it was too short. Several times I had to stop long lining off the back of the boat and switch to pushing jigs off the front just to keep the nose down while trying to keep the trolling motor in the water on windy days. I would NEVER by a 45".
The 60 inch works just fine for me.....can get the motor down deeper on those windy days when you need it and your fishing off the back of the boat. Also gives you something to grab and pull the motor up with when stowing the motor. Just mount your motor a little straighter with the boat so it won't hang over the side in the stowed position and you will be OK.
This is the exact feedback I was needing from people that have actually owned one. Does anyone know who has the new iPilot units in stock for sale? I am close to pulling the trigger on a trolling motor?
I have the 45" on my astro f/s, and it is plenty long enough. I actually dont have it deployed all the way down, and it works just fine, only thing I have noticed is it will move the boat faster if I am in the front of the boat.
Recently installed a new Terrova 80 lb I-pilot with a 45" shaft on my 18 1/2 ft Ranger Bass boat and love it. It is plenty long for me and moves the boat really well no matter where I am in the boat. The Motorguide Tournament Digital motor that I had previously was a 42 in shaft, so I figured the 45 in would be fine for my boat and I was right. I bought the TM from a very reputable dealer who had seen the motor mounted on a number of bassboats and recommended the 45 for me. I knew with the 60 in that I would have had to go through the trouble of either paying a Minn Kota repairman to cut the shaft length down or do it myself and void the warranty. Plus, I don't like a Trolling motor set too deep in the water, and really did want it too tall on the front of my boat causing issues with my spiderrigging. I don't see any issue with deploying the motor, but I have added a strap around the shaft just under the head (like on most other trolling motors) to make it easy to pull up and/or deploy. Others will no doubt have differing opinions, but I'm extremely well-satisfied with the 45 in shaft.
We received the new 80" and 101" Terrovas w/I-Pilot a few days ago. Still waiting on the 12V/55" but they are due any time now. Give me a call if you would like a price quote.Quote:
