I plan on getting a si fishfinder but was wondering if i should buy the 1198 and put at console only or buy the 898 or798 for console then maybe have enough money left over for a di sonar up front. thats if the numbers come out rightbanghead

Bigger is better but two is better than one. Either way you will be happy.
I agree that two are better than one. I run Lowrance stuff, started with a HDS-5, added a HDS-7 about 3 months later, then added the Structure Scan, then added an HDS-8. Put my configuration together a piece at a time so the cost didn't affect me so much, but I now have the set-up I want.
Also, don't be afraid to buy good used electronics, if you're patient you can save a bunch of money...
If you do any fishing off the bow you'd definitely want some sonar there. I'd go with 2 units.Thumbs Up
2 is definately better unless you sit in the back and just drift fish all the time. I spend 95% of my time at the bow so i put my best finder up there.
Each unit will have features that will benefit your fishing methods....
Decide which features you would use most throughout your fishing day and place the unit that has those features where they will be most utilized...
I agree with chaunc... I spend 95% of my fishing at the TM..... That's where I want my best unit...

is it worth having SI up on the bow or would i be better off with a 2d/DI unit up front. Just not sure whether SI would be used often up front
I find SI invaluable for finding new structure as I fish...
I spend 95% of my fishing day at the TM....so...
For every 1 new brushpile I find while at the console....I can find 20 while at the TM....
SI at the TM allows me this lopsided comparison in "finding new structure"...
DI (without SI) at the TM only allows marking "new structure" that is directly under the xducer...

thanks for the help it will help in my final decision on what to get. :D
Iffin your an old guy like me, GO BIG.
