Anybody have pointers for crappie fishing on Lake Maumelle this time of year? I know that there are several PVC structures placed around the lake at various depths. I tried them this summer with very little luck. Would these hold crappie now?

I am certainly not the expert on any lake anywhere....but in conversations in the past with folks that fish out there a lot....there is a gentlemen that catches a lot of crappie on the lake this time of year that fishes the creek channels......and uses a Tennessee shad colored jig. There are marked pvc piles on the west end of the lake that are very close to creek channels and therefore you might hit both quickly to locate the fish.
Good luck
Good Luck...........Let us know how you do.
I know a fellow that does just like Basscat said. Finds those artificial structure spots next to creek channels. He casts a Tennessee shad-colored grub, lets it sink to the bottom then reels very slowly and steadily down the ledge with the cover. Said the PVC doesn't hang you too badly. Also catches some of the saugeye that the lake has occassionally. But if the wind picks up Maumelle gets way too rough to fish light line stuff. Then he starts trolling jigs with up to 1/4-oz. heads. along the sides of the channel.
I always need a stickup or stump to drop a jig by, but deep structure is the way to go on Maumelle.
Thanks for the tips!
