What is HD?
HB did not "increase" their pixel count when they added HD to their product names...
They meerly added the moniker "HD"...

Looking at the Cabelas catalog,Here's the Lowrance HDS-5 screen specs. The 5" high-performance display delivers 480x480-pixel resolution and is easier to use with brilliant displays, menus and keypads.
Here's the screen specs for the Humminbird 597HD, which is a lower grade unit. 640V x 640H, 5" ultrahigh-resolution color TFT LCD display
Both are advertised as HD. If screen pixels are a deciding factor on whether a unit is HD or not, looks like H/ B has the higher definition. I guess if one company can advertise 480x480 as HD, maybe Humminbird decided they might as well call their units HD also. Looks like it's just a sales pitch for both companies.
Who cares? This kinda reminds me of the VGA vs HVGA vs EVGA crap.

If 800khz gives you a clearer picture than 455khz,then which is this so called hd or are both hd
Kosmo... I think the second part of your OP is more to what Tom means...
HD is a sales pitch ...
Used by marketers...
To make products seem more advanced than they really are...
That can't be discredited by anyone...
Because there is no standard...
Except the standards that are created by the marketers themselves...
To entice people to buy their wares....
