I have a humminbird 1197 on my deep v and am going to bass pro tomorrow and was going to look at lake chips. I live in kansas and fish also in missouri, mainly crappie fish, which card is the best for me. Is the premium worth the money and does the 3-d bottom structure work on most lakes?
The 3D information is only on the Platinum Navionics mapping cards and the lake has to have had the High Definition survey performed on it. You should be able to go to the Navionics web site and see which lakes are covered and if they have had the HD survey done or not. You will also find out which map card to look for as well.
I don't think that LakeMaster covers Kansas and Missouri as yet.
Besides seeing 3D on a chart plotter using Navionics Premium type cards, you can also get a 3D "airplane view" of these types of charts on a Windows computer. There is software called Navionics NavPlanner 2 which comes with thousands of lake charts built in and you can also read in SD or CF cards from Navionics for viewing.Quote:

Note that, of course, this is a carefully selected image for marketing: the sun angle lighting, the vertical exaggeration, all kinds of little details were tweaked on an inherently interesting span of water. If you use 3D on a relatively boring lake bottom or on a Navionics Gold type chart, you won't see anything exciting in 3D. Still, it's nice to have a 3D view as a comparision point.
NavPlanner 2 also allows you to split the screen with your chart on the left and Google Earth on the right, the mapping images in synchronization. In some situations, this is more informative when evaluating an area.
