Came into some money so I am looking at elite 5 dsi with $100 rebate at $520 or the HB 798ci hd si at around $700.

I wont recommend brand.... But I will offer info on user benefits of the different technology....
DI will show structure under the boat and out to sides within the 75degree sonar beam...
SI will show stucture under the boat, out to sides, and which side of the boat the structure is on....

Not sure if the Elite is DI only or it also has 2D sonar. I wouldn't recommend a down imaging only unit. H/B DI units have 2D sonar also. The H/B 798's for $700 might be last years and aren't ethernet capable. If you ever plan to link another unit, you want ethernet.
the Elite DI does NOT have 2d sonar, the DI units do not show fish like the traditional 2d does, the units (both Low & HB) I've seen in the stores on display in simulator mode, fish show up as little white dots in and around the structure. Have not seen one in use on the water.
make a run down there to bass pro shop in springfield. they will have all of them up and running. you can play with them and ask questions. that will help you a lot. i ggo to gander mountain and bass pro when i get to nashville, i play with all of them. ive learned alot doing that.
