Oconne Boat Ramps...

Be carefull! Lake is down and boats ramps drop off quick. Put in at Brantley's an was within a few inches from end of ramp. I had to poke around with the net to find the drop. Anybody know what other ramps are useable?

Sugar Creek was OK Wednesday but you had to jump off the dock down into the boat and jump up to get back on the dock. A guy fell in th lake trying to get on the dock. Too many rocks to use the bank. Is Brantley's the one out on the main lake at Lick Creek?

I have been putting in at the Sugar Creek Public ramp with no issues and if I want to fish the dam end of the lake I put in at Long Shoals Public ramp with no issues. A couple weeks ago I put in at Sugar creek marina and the ramp ran out and my trailer tires dropped off the concrete. Then when I went to load the boat it was a real pain because the trailer wasn't level and then had to use 4 wheel drive to pull tires back onto the ramp since my truck tires were in the water. So avoid the ramp at the marina. The water is also real shallow there and the motor was hitting dirt so make sure you trim up when getting close to the trailer.

Brantley's is at the mouth of lick creek and that ramp need's to be closed,all the ramp's are getting close to the end.If thing's keep going the way they are going on oconee you might not be able to put in anywhere.Is anybody catching any fish on oconee?It's been a tough fall for me with nothing much to post.I have seen several people catching some fish,but they have all been dink's and they still keep them.

If we dont start getting some rains all the lakes are gonna get serious.:(

Hit Oconee again today. Used the old JRs in Lick. They have it marked on the dock where NOT TO GO PAST. Was tough unload and load but glad I got a light boat for that. Winds were dang near ridiculous. Dinks and more Dinks but did catch fish. Few stripers and cats too. Pulled jigs and single poled some brush we found trolling. Heavy heads just to stay in contact with the jig. Caught a few good ones in 10-15 but was only because it was sheltered a little more than other places I wanted to fish. Do be care full running the lake. Points run longer than it appears and I found big trees 4" under the water in places I used to run. Navionics chip helped a lot on knowing how far off a point to stay and where the humps were, but the timber is not marked.

I have been going about every weekend for the last month. I am going to go down and fish at sugar creek were I always go. I have been catching some decent fish. Not huge numbers but decent fish. Last weekend I went and despite the wind I caught about 10 little dinks and about 10 slabs in the 1 pound to 1.5lb range. I have been catching the bigger fish in the stump fields at sugar creek and other places where there is stumps sticking up in the lake. I just drop a minnow tipped 1/16th ounce jig down to about 8-10 ft right next to the stumps and wait for a bump, set the hook and hold on. Like I said not many fish but every time I go I catch about 10 slabs which is 20 filets for my freezer.

Here are a couple pictures of what I have been catching in the stump fields by dropping a jig/minnow down to the depth they are holding at on my humminbird. You have to have good patience fishing this way because you might have to jig by one stump for 15 or 20 minutes before they wake up and bite but they are there. I have also had good luck in the stumps down by the dam but thats a long ride for me as sugar creek is the closest boat ramp to me coming from Dallas, Ga. As you can tell by the water around that point in th first picture the lake is down some and if you look at the water I was battling wind that day as well. That was about 2 or 3 weeks ago so the lake is down more by now I am sure.
