According to other posts.... the stripers haven't quite moved in good yet. Most people are still fishing far downstream of Weldon but great fishing can still be had. Cuz and I found a formidable fish in the Roanoke out of sheer boredom. We were anchored downstream of Weldon a few years ago waiting on a striper bite when I grabbed up my browning crappie rod and pitched out my favorite High Rock jig. BAM!!! I thought I'd hooked a striper on the first pitch but as the culprit soared skyward, I got my first glance at a Hickory Shad or baby tarpon as we later named them. We more than salvaged a busted trip to Weldon by catching many of these awesome fighters. Just tie on a double jig, throw at still water, and hold on. They will break off 6 pound line so be ready for a tussle!
The season on the lower Roanoke has been extended untill 4/22

I was out there Tuesday but I proceeded to break the prop on my motor so I just fished my back down stream with no luck. If you go be prepared to catch alot of catfish and Bowfin. I also beleive there is an advisory on the catfish from the Roanoke so I would not keep them.

Just a side note, I submitted my comments on hunting on Sundays. If you have not, you should. There is no reason why we should not be allowed to hunt on Sunday.

Fished the RR on Wed,caught 1 keeper, had 1 get off before netting. a few cats and missed a few more fish, water low.Only talked to 1 other that caught a striper. live shad didnt do much, cut them up and the strikes started.
I went up the river today. Caught 3, 1 bowfin and 2 catfish around 4lbs each. I caught 2 stripers of within 5 minutes of putting the ancor down. After that it was prety much dead
