Well I have a neighbor who has abandonded their house... does anyone out there know how I would go about finding out who or what bank holds the mortgage? I'd like to report it so the property doesn't fall apart...

if they had an escrow account that paid their taxes and insurance the tax office would know who the lender is.......wether they tell you or not i dont know
Go to the property assessor's office - give them the owner's name or address and they can look up the tax card. It will show when they bought it and give a deed reference. Then, go to the Register of Deeds Office (they may call it the Recorder's office in your state) and give them the date of purchase and the deed reference if you got one from the assessor. They can then run the mortgage/deed of trust index to see who the lien holder is. Once you get the bank's name, you can try to contact them. If they are local, you might get a result. If they are not a local bank, you'll probably spend a good deal of time on hold trying to find someone to talk to. If your county and/or city has a codes enforcement office, you can contact them to report the home abandoned.
Thanks Folks!
