jet drive question?
Does anyone know what the designations under the "motor shaft length" column stand for? I can't find them anywhere on the nameplate of my '02 merc 60/40 jet drive. I am upgrading to an '07 90/65. The '07 is a long shaft (20") and my '02 is a short shaft (15"). Was trying to find out if they might be interchangable but I'm thinking not according to the chart. Thanks.

How sure are you that the '02 is a short shaft? Reason I am asking, is that I was under the impression that you loose 2-3" of length when you add the jet foot. I could be wrong though but a 20" prop shaft would be about a 17" jet foot.
I would call outboard jets and get the info straight from them.

Well that's a good point. I guess in reference to the two lengths listed, I might have a 20" shaft. It measures 15" from the top flange of the jet housing to the bottom flange of the head. The model # is 60EOJET40. Maybe the serial # would tell me something.

I never seen a short shafted jet in the 60/40 size or above. I have seen a few in the smaller sizes but generally most jets that I have seen started as a prop with a 20" shaft.

According to the chart by Outboard Jets, which to my understanding make just about all the jets you find on any motor, including the ones from OEM, they do come in a 15 and 20" shaft length in my '02 60/40 merc. I think that mine is probably the 20", and the 90/65 may be a 25". I'll have to check with the guy at the riverboat shop where the motor currently is. I shoulda paid more attention to the nameplate. :(

The problem will be at the transom -----the long shaft will ride too far below the boat affectingyour arility to navigae the shallow water im assuming your used to ,plus you stand the chance of exposing the "foot to damage ..........i rely on troutt bros. Im missouri they will tell you they know

I run a 115/80 jet on a 25" transom. I believe th motor is a 20" shaft. When I put a prop drive on it I have to use a 5" spacer and a longer drive shaft.

I took the boat up to the shop last Fri. and we took a better look at the motor and the transom. The figured that we would have to fab up a riser when I first talked to him. Looks like it will need 5-7" of lift to place the foot where it needs to be. He had several boats that he was working on that had risers he added. Looks like he does nice work and the risers look nice. Now just waiting to see what, if anything will have to change with the controls/cables.
