Ok gang, need some info on this, got a 788ci HD DI on front of my

boat on the TM, thinkin bout goin to a 798 with SI & DI, what yall think ? was reading before I bought and seems like someone mentioned that with the TM moving around I might be better off to stay with just DI, when I am moving around with big motor I have a 898 and then when I move to the front I dont have the SI and I miss it, is it worth the difference to mount a unit like the 798 on the TM

maachuu, i linked my 2 lowrance hds units so that I can see the same stuff front and back. I personally like that option. However, what you have going would be perfectly fishable also. I really think it just comes down to your personal likes and wants.

I always wondered how to mount a side imaginig transducer on the TM to get it to work right. It seems that when the TM would turn, you would be changing the angle of your SI?

Hey Macchuu. I have SI on the front of my boat now and I love it. I run the split screen most of the time with DI or 2d sonar and SI. It takes a bit to get used to reading between movements of the trolling motor because while the trolling motor is is changing directions SI is pretty much rendered useless but this is usually short times. When slow trolling I look for fish and cover and I will adjust direction to get to them. For this you will need to run the scroll speed to 1. I do the same thing pulling cranks and run scroll speed on 3. When single pole fishing I run the scroll speed back up to 5 and turn the trolling motor to look for the cover I am fishing. In summary SI on the TM has a longer learning curve than traditional SI but has definite benefits once you figure out how to read it.

Phooey. After looking at the 898 SI, you're gonna hate the 798 due to size. On top of that, you'll be a couple more feet further from it if mounted on the floor. The only viable option I see for you is replacing the 898 with an 1198 and moving the 898 to the front.
