Has anyone ever spliced a transducer cable?

I have a Humminbird 597 hd di (only had it about a month) routed it just like my old one was and last time out the thing was going crazy on me. I checked the transducer cable and thre was a cut in it where itwas attached at the swivel on the trolling motor.

Has anybody had any success splicing the cable (8 strands) or should I just buck up the $150 for a new transducer and cable?

I cut one many years ago and learned quickly to run the transducer cable through wire loom to keep from cutting it.

I've spliced several. Not too hard. It needs to be soldered, and carefully sealed. Many people neglect to splice the shield, which is necessary if it has been cut.

When you splice it, stagger the splices so they don't line up and make a bulge. Heat shrink each splice, then use liquid electrical tape and heat shrink on the whole thing to waterproof it.

I split a long piece of small rubber hose & put my cable in it. Never cut a cable since I started do'n it.
