Boat Trailer Wheel Bearing Seals

Got the next door neighbor packing my wheel bearing on my boat trailer. I have a 2008 Karavan boat trailer that hauls my 2008 Lowes boat. Neighbor pulled off one hub last night and told me to go get the seals. Well after going to 2 different O'Reilly Auto Parts stores I finally found some seals that I thought would work. The guy told me that they were as close as he could get to my current seals. They were $5.99 each. I came back home and Paula had looked in my spare hub box and found a couple of new seals that I had purchased from our Lowes boat dealer while they were still in business. The seals I purchased from O'Reilly are close but they still look different. So I decided to get online last night at the Karavan trailer website. I was able to find the same seals for $.80 each plus shipping. So I called Karavan this morning and they are going to ship me 10 seals for $8.00 plus shipping. Granted I don't need 10 seals but if you replace seals everytime that you pack the wheel bearings it will be nice to already have them here.

Just goes to show you that a little work online will save you money in the long run.

Keep the seals in a zip lock freezer bag and squeeze the air out of the bag. Rubbers two enemies are light and oxygen. Don't want ya to pull out the last set of seals in five years and have them fail early on ya.
