thermo cline
Hey yall i need a little info, i have a lowrance mark 5x pro it seems but be an ok unit for the price, im still learning to read it properly, ive read articles on thermo clines and other things to look for on a graph when searching for fish. for the last couple weeks ive been fishing a local lake in saline louisiana and ive noticed this line across my screen, ive fished 18 fow and this line appears around 9-12 feet if i move to 25 fow im still seeing this line in that depth range, could this be the "thermo cline"? or would my unit even pick this up. the perch im catching all seem to be right above this line...and i dont always see the line, just certain areas of the lake. i have my unit tuned fairly well as i can see my 1/16 oz jig and split shot while fishing under the trolling motor where the pick up is mounted, any info on learning to read some of these things would be very helpful and appreciated. trent

I can't be 100% sure because I am unfamiliar with your unit, but it sounds like the thermocline to me, especially, since you are catching fish just above it. I know that my unit will show the thermocline when I have the senitivity turned up. With the drought I'm just glad to know there is still a lake in Louisiana with water deep enough to have a thermocline. LOL.

i kinda thought thats what it might be i had also heard most of the time fish would hang right above it, and about the drought we really need some rain bad, this little lake is about 2 foot low thanks for the reply

That's exactly wat ur seeing. Water below that line is no good. Congrats! U just eliminated 1/2 the water in ur lake. Finding structure in 8-10 fow is now ur next goal.
Good job

thanks for the help Kman, ive fairly new to crappie fishing, only been seriously fishing for about 2 years, and this is the first summer ive tried crappie fishing and its a whole new world to me. i think i remember someone tell me they refered to the thermocline as sweet water and bad water, that makes a little more sense to me, im trying to learn all i can about this, i used to be hard core duck hunter but every season seems to get worse and worse, last year i just had a hard time sitting in the duck blind not seeing any ducks just knowing the whole time the white perch were probably jumping in the boat. now if someone can help me figure out how to post pics from my phone i can share some of my fishing trips. thanks again yall

Well that's how u learn, go and also ask questions.
Btw, fully aware of good and bad duck seasons!
