OK...my collarless jigs

1st, here's a few that were on my camera from the past couple days.

Here's what I tied this afternoon (below) I got my stuff from CA today, which included some 210 thread....should have been using this all along. I can cinch things down tighter with it and not break it (still being careful of course). I've also determined from reading here that I need a thicker chennile (I think I saw #2 was what I want ?).

Anyway, here's what I tied tonight trying to learn how to tuck the thread under the head. I'm also trying my hand at duplicates (as opposed to just tying whatever color/pattern), and trying to pay a little more attention to detail, still sprout a long tail now & then DohRofl

So on the tails, in general, do they look OK, or am I using too much material?

Forgot to ask.....why no love for the collars? Just curious........

What is the specific color of that orange chenille?

As far as "collars". I'm not sure if you mean jig heads w lead collars or completed jigs with thread collars.

Nicely done. Yes I can see improvement in your tying. As for collarless jigs I might be the only one on here that ties a red collar and thinks that it is necessary on a crappie jig. This is just my way of thinking but I feel that is imitates the flash of the bait fish gills.

The orange chenille I got from FishingUSA, pkg. says "Ultra Chennile-Standard-FL Orange-UCS503-Wapsi". I think they are slightly higher than CrazyAngler, who probably carries the same item. I may be somewhat confused, as in a previous thread I'd thought wrapping/exposed thread behind the jig head was also called a collar (as is the lead extension of the head). Someone please clarify please so I'll know for future reference?

Thanks! To be honest, I'm kind of leaning towards the thread collar myself. Seems like it would make for a more durable jig, plus it adds an additional color. Maybe it's an "old geezer" thing Thumbs Up

Collars just bulk up the front and make the chenille uneven.

#2 is best because it works on all the smaller sizes from 1/16 down to what ever and on larger jig heads you can double wrap it for a fatter body and works well. You can get away with #3 on 1/16, but I don't think smaller.

Jigs look good!

PS on thread neck jigs I like a small collar to help control the width of the thread.
