El Dorado 7/30

Well we tried them again from 7:30 am till 10:30 am did not do good only got 3 one was 13 inches.We used minnows fishing the brushpile we fished yesterday.My son got snagged in the brush and started snapping the Rod tip trying to get loose and broke his rod in half.He was really upset more less ended his day and mine too having to listen to his bitching about the rod and being tired cause he fished all night.

The wind started getting bad and us rookies had a tough time staying in the area we caught them.And those jet skies and recreation boaters were not helping none those waves were coming from all directions.

We packed up and rode around looking for brushpiles only found and marked one.May go riding around late this evening and try and find more brush.

My son and his buddies went catfishing last night from dark till 5:00 am they caught 2 nice flatheads and 1 channel using live perch from the bank.

Well I'm done fishing for this weekend much rather fish during the week so if everything goes okay will try again next week.

I half expected to run into you Shane at the lake, I was out there Friday night and Saturday morning. Caught the typical mix of whites, wipers, and catfish and drum. No walleye:( . Also tried for crappie and found no takers. All fish came on jigging spoons, trolling wasn't producing.

I wish I liked catching catfish, don't seem to have a problem catching them out there. Otherwise a good trips, took my 4yr old nephew with us, a fish is fish to him, and that's all that matter. Thumbs Up

Fishing isn't at bad as you would think it would be in the heat, as long is there is some wind its tollerable. It's when you're loading the boat up in the parking lot standing on the asphalt is when it feels much hotter.

Sounds good Shane that will be appreciated I will also keep scouting and finding areas to mark on gps.That will sure help a bunch with fishing time ,we waste a lot of time riding around looking for places to fish,especially when we only want to go out for 2-4 hrs.

Try the outlet structure on the blown out dam, used to be some brush there. Haven't fished there in a few years. Also up the river or creeks, if it has a boatramp use it. This time of year crappies can be WHACKED shallow in those areas 2'-5'. They're generally protected and it makes boat control easier which let's you concentrate on fishing. A lot of times the fish you see in areas like that can be suspended in the channel. They stroll along looking for schools of baitfish and more up to the cover to feed, crappie love to have a roof over their head, it protects them from the birds.

Hey thanks for the tips. I have fished around that cement tower by the old dam 3 times with no luck.I do better on the other side of the dam not far from the boat ramp.

Some other things for looking for piles without SI. People tend to build piles on places the can line-up on. Exs: hedgerows, telephone poles, bends, roads, points, just things that will help them remember. Yes there's plenty of naturally occurring piles from storms and high water, but there's far more "illegal" piles, if there is such a thing. When the bio's build them, they GPS them and you can get coordinates from them if they're not marked. I've seen plenty that go both ways. But that river/creek thing, GOLD baby, GOLD.

'Least myou guys gave it a try. With all the water lice and pleasure boaters the best (and only time as far as I'm concerned) times are during the week.;)

Thanks crappiedoc for the tip. Been thinking about trying the creeks for crappie and or some green carp. :o Might just have to give that a try, I love pulling fish from shallow cover. Thumbs Up
