Suggestions Please

After moving away from louisiana in 1985 it looks like I may be moving back. Slight possibility of a new job there in New Orleans. So if anyone can offer some advise of good apartments or even ones to stay away from or good areas or ones to stay away from would be very much appreciated. Would probably need to stay within 45 minutes of New Orleans or less if possible. The Basin is a misstress and she is calling me hard the last few years.

Slabs, I can't offer any specifics, but as far as "where" goes, I'd definitely recommend "the north shore". Getting out of the city when the government says "Evacuate!" when a storm is coming is literally hell on wheels. Also, Covington and Hammond are a decent way from the lakes and have a bit of elevation - and about a 45-minute commute to downtown. Thereabouts, anyway. Distance both from and above saltwater are good, believe me.
Whatever, stay away from the south shore - Gretna, Belle Chasse, Chalmette, and so forth. They will be closer to work, and when no storms are breathing down your neck, they do have perks, but...

Thanks sneakypete, I was planning on the north side of the lake, never cared much for New Orleans when I lived in Baton Rouge, but tryin to shake up some options. Hammond might be the area I look into. Thanks again!

Slidell is a short trek to NO east. 20 mins or so across twinspan. I live in Pearl River. No suggestions there, but Slidell is full of nice areas and you wldnt be far from the Pearl and Honey Island Swamp. Great fishing and hunting.

Dont know what you're looking to spend but there's two sets of apt/condo on Military blvd that are in a pretty ideal area. Working on getting names n #s now

Right now it is all preliminary as I am interviewing on Friday. So as I stated above it is very preliminary but with the distance between here and there I am going to try to kill a few birds with 1 stone in the chance I am offered the position. I have no knowledge of timeframes of how soon I would have to be there ready to work after the training program in Georgia. So I will deffinately check out Military Blvd. Thanks again MS and any other suggestions I will check out.
