hair dye that women use to make their hair purple green florescent you just rub it on and let it dry anyway that's what I use.
There are several brands of die the big companies use. The considered best is Veniards, but also Rit and some even use cool aid, but if you want it so it doesn't bleed you may want to use good die and since I don't die my materials I don't use any. However I have never seen anyone say Veniards was not the best for fly tying materials. I do know Bob/snake River has experience.

Unless you need a really custom color buy the tails already dyed. The cost of set up is high unless you are going to do a lot of tails. You have to dedicate pots and utensils to dying. And you will ruin a few tails until you get the hang of it. Just try to find the best price you can for the colors that you need and you will be money ahead.
Been there and done that. If you do decide to dye PM me so you don't make all the mistakes that I did. Remember no one has more color combos than Skip and he doesn't dye that should tell you something.

Spike-It works well. Cake frosting dye works to, I used it last fall on 20 tails just didn't get to try it out. I left them in my buddies shop and three days later when I returned the mice/rats had eaten them up. I generally buy my colors, but roadkill rules for white.
we misunderstood we thought you meant dying the tip's of tails we use commercial dye for hair and feathers I do not use Kool-Aid or clothing dye it does not work real good comes out Dall you can go online and get dye I use key a lot but by all means if you're going to die a lot of stuff be sure that you use a commercial grade we have been doing this for over 40 years but one thing that you definitely want to do if you're going to do any dying of any material make sure that you thoroughly Worsham feathers and hair before you put it in a dye bath use dish soap to wash her stuff in this will take all oil and other dirt off of other thing you're wanting to do is use vinegar to set the dye do not boil water for a bat keep it evenly warm hot to the touch or a little bit warmer be careful of commercial guys make sure that you are wearing some type of rubber gloves or protection for your hands if the dye does get on your hands it may not come off right away make sure that your services that you're working on our covert it will penetrate countertops and definitely do not let any of that go on to the floor you will have a problem you might wind up with some pretty spots.
